West Noble Boys 9, Wawasee 1
It was an emotional night for West Noble soccer as the team honored the memory of Anthony Reyes.
Reyes, who passed away Aug. 20 in a car accident, was a member of the boys soccer team at West Noble, and the team honored his family before the match. It was fitting the Chargers would pour it on Wawasee once the match began. A Jace Mishler goal knotted Wawasee even at 1-1 early first half, but that was all Wawasee would get.
West Noble would score four in the first half and five more in the second half. Eric Galarza potted four goals, Henry Torres had three and Victor Rodriguez had two as the hosts ran away with the match.
“Decent first 25 minutes, our goalie then got injured as did our center back, and things unraveled from there,” stated Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp. “Great for West Noble and glad they could honor the loss of their player in a good game of soccer.”
The JV match ended in a scoreless tie.
Wawasee falls to 2-1 on the season.
NorthWood Boys 1, Concord 1
A key Northern Lakes Conference matchup saw both clubs pull away a point.
Sebastian Guillen and Dominic Castillo were responsible for the tallies for their clubs.
Andrew Graber made six saves for the Panthers.
Mishawaka Marian Boys 4, Warsaw 1
Joe Baugher and Xavier Solis had a goal and assist each as the Knights beat Warsaw in Mishawaka. Jaxson Hundt and Zach Fewell also scored for Class 2-A No. 2 Marian.
Warsaw (1-4-1) did not provide stats for the match.
Lakeland Christian Academy Boys 4, Oregon-Davis 0
Brayden Lane notched a hat trick to boost the Cougars to a road win.
Lane scored in the ninth, 32nd and 69th minutes while Garrett McKeever had a goal and two assists. The Cougars (3-1) outshot the Bobcats 15-5, and Peter Koller held up his end in net, stopping all five shots for the clean sheet.
“I’ve been pleased with Brayden Lane’s ability to create dangerous scoring opportunities this season,” said LCA head coach Dan Miller. “We needed to possess the ball better today than we did, but I’m happy with the four goals. Defensively this is our first shutout of the year, and we will need to continue to play solid defense in the coming week.”
Concord Girls Soccer 5, Wawasee 1
McKenzie Long scored on an assist from Jenny Camarena, but Wawasee (0-4-2) couldn’t keep pace with visiting Concord Saturday afternoon.
“The girls played with great intensity the whole game,” said Wawasee head coach Luis Camargo. “A few mistakes in the back cost us goals against a team with great finishers. We knew it was going to be one of the toughest games of our season, but the girls showed a lot of positive things.”
